Privacy Policy
Last updated October 25, 2026
This policy explains what Snap Select ("we", "us") collects when you use the Snap Select Mac app, the client galleries and this website (snapselect.anmule.com), why, and the choices you have. Snap Select is made by Anmule.
The short version. Culling happens on your Mac. Loading photos, face detection, face recognition and grouping similar frames all run on your computer, and the face data used to recognise people never leaves it. Photos are uploaded only when you choose to share them in a client gallery. We don't sell your data, and the website and app carry no advertising trackers.
1. What we collect
When you cull (no account needed)
Nothing about your photos. The app reads the folders you open, and everything it works out about them (sharpness, faces, similar frames, your ratings and picks) is stored on your Mac.
Your account
You sign in with Google only to share client galleries and keep track of credits. Sign-in is handled by Google Firebase Authentication, which gives us your email address, name, profile picture and a user id. We never see your Google password.
The questions after you first sign in
Optionally, your age, country, how you heard about Snap Select, what kind of photographer you are, the camera you shoot with (brand and model) and what you want to use it for, and a referral code if you have one. We record which codes an account has used, so each code's credits are given only once.
Client galleries you share
- The photos you choose to share, resized first (1920 px on the long edge by default) plus smaller thumbnails, with their file names and sizes.
- Camera details read from the photos (EXIF): when it was taken, camera, lens, focal length, aperture, shutter speed, ISO and similar settings, shown to your client next to each photo. Uploaded photos are re-encoded without their embedded metadata, so GPS location is not uploaded.
- Where faces are in each photo (box positions and a sharpness label) and one small face crop per person, so your client can filter the gallery by person. See Faces and photos.
- The gallery's title and the password we generate for it.
- The photos your client selects. Clients don't need an account. After they enter the gallery password, their browser keeps a cookie so they stay signed in to that gallery.
Credits and purchases
Your credit balance and a history of how credits were added and used. Credit packs are sold by Dodo Payments, which acts as the merchant of record. Dodo collects your payment details; we never receive your card number. From Dodo we receive the payment id, what you bought, the amount, tax and currency, and the account it was for.
How the app is used
When the app starts, when you open a folder and when you finish a culling session, it sends us a short message so we can see how many people use Snap Select, how they use it and which versions are still in use. It contains:
- a random install id the app creates the first time it runs (not tied to your hardware, and it changes if you reinstall),
- what happened (the app opened, a folder was opened, a session ended),
- counts: how many photos the folder had and, for a session, how many you reviewed, picked, rejected, rated and exported, and how many minutes it took,
- the app version, whether the Mac has Apple silicon or Intel, and the macOS version,
- your user id, if you are signed in at the time, so these counts are linked to your account.
It never includes file names, folder names, photos or anything about what is in them. You can turn it off in Settings ("Send usage counts"). Separately, the app checks for updates by sending its version to our server, which you can also turn off in Settings.
This website
Our server keeps standard logs (IP address, browser, the page requested and the time) to keep the service running and to protect it from abuse. When you click a download link we also record when it was clicked, which button or link it was, the type of device (Mac, Windows, phone), the website that linked to us and, where available, your country. The public pages set no cookies. They load fonts from Google Fonts, which means Google receives your IP address. The download itself comes from GitHub.
2. Faces and photos
Snap Select finds faces so it can tell you whether they are sharp and group photos by person. That analysis runs entirely on your Mac. The numbers the app uses to recognise a person (face embeddings) are stored on your Mac and are never uploaded.
If you share a gallery, we store where the faces are in each shared photo and one small crop of each person's face. These are pictures and positions, not face templates, and they are used only to let your client view photos by person in that gallery. They are deleted with the gallery.
You are responsible for having the right to share the photos you upload, including permission from the people in them where the law requires it.
3. How we use it
- To run your account, host your galleries and show them to the clients you send them to.
- To add credits when you buy a pack and deduct them when you upload.
- To count downloads, installs, sign-ups and purchases, to see how much people cull with the app, and to see which websites and posts bring people to Snap Select, so we know what is working and what to improve.
- To answer support requests, fix problems and decide which versions of macOS and the app to support.
- To protect the service from abuse and meet legal and tax obligations.
We don't use your photos to train models, and we don't use your data for advertising.
4. Who we share it with
We don't sell or rent your personal information. We share it only with the services that run Snap Select for us, and only what each needs:
| Service | What for | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Google Firebase | Sign-in | Your Google account details during sign-in |
| Amazon Web Services (S3) | Storing gallery photos | Shared photos, thumbnails and face crops |
| Dodo Payments | Selling credit packs (merchant of record) | Your payment and billing details, email, the pack bought |
| GitHub | Hosting the app download and updates | Your IP address when you download |
| Google Fonts | Website fonts | Your IP address and browser |
Your clients see the gallery you send them: the photos, their camera details, the people view and their own selection. We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to a buyer if Snap Select is ever sold, in which case this policy continues to apply.
5. How long we keep it
- Galleries stay until you delete them in the app. Deleting a gallery removes its photos, thumbnails and face crops.
- Your account, credit history and onboarding answers stay until you ask us to delete your account.
- Purchase records are kept for as long as tax and accounting law requires, even after the account is deleted.
- Usage counts and download clicks are kept to compare trends over time. Download clicks hold no names or email addresses; app usage counts are linked to your account only if you were signed in when they were sent, and are deleted with your account.
- Server logs are kept for a short time for security and troubleshooting.
6. How we protect it
Everything sent between the app or your browser and our servers is encrypted (HTTPS). Galleries are private: each has its own generated password, and photos are served through short-lived links. Payment details are handled by Dodo Payments and never reach us. No system is perfectly secure, but we limit what we collect so there is less to protect.
7. Your choices and rights
- Use Snap Select without an account: culling never needs one.
- Skip any of the questions after sign-in.
- Turn off usage counts and update checks in the app's Settings.
- Delete any gallery from the app at any time.
- Ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, or to delete your account, by emailing support@anmule.com. We reply within 30 days.
Depending on where you live (for example the EU, the UK, California or India), you may have further rights, such as objecting to or restricting how we use your data and complaining to your data protection authority. We honour these for everyone, wherever they live.
Our website does not respond to browser "Do Not Track" signals, because there is no agreed standard for them. It carries no cross-site trackers either way.
8. Legal bases (EU and UK)
- Contract: your account, galleries, credits and purchases, which we need in order to provide what you signed up for.
- Legitimate interests: usage counts, download statistics, security logs and support, which help us keep Snap Select working and improve it. You can object, and switch the app's usage counts off in Settings.
- Consent: the optional questions after sign-in.
- Legal obligation: keeping purchase records.
We are based in India, and our servers and service providers may process data in other countries, including the United States. Where the law requires it, we rely on the safeguards those providers offer for international transfers.

11. Changes to this policy
Updates to this policy will be published here, on this privacy policy page (https://snapselect.anmule.com/privacy). If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top. If a change significantly affects how your data is used, we will also say so in the app or by email before it takes effect.
